Wegmans is discontinuing its mobile app for in-store scanning, citing high losses

on Amazon live radio app Amp start a new fund for creators which is designed to reward creators who create engaging shows and build loyal audiences. An Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch that Amp has set aside “millions of dollars” to pay creators through monthly rewards, but did not provide an exact figure. The company says that the payout range for each creator varies based on various factors, and that the number of creators it rewards each month is subject to change.

Any Eligible Creator who hosted a Show during an Eligible Month may be awarded a the fund. Creators will be judged based on show performance and listener engagement, such as show popularity among new and repeat listeners. Amazon says it’s looking at different ways to reward creators, so the metrics it uses to determine reward amounts may change over time.

Each month, all eligible Amp creators will automatically be considered for a prize, and creators who are selected will receive an email with instructions on how to claim their prizes.

“Creators are the heart and soul of Amp, and the Creators Fund is our next step in recognizing the commitment of people doing what they love, making innovative shows that inspire and entertain,” said John Ciancutti, Amp’s vice president of declaration. “We’ve spent our beta listening to the early adopters of our creator community, and we understand that monetization is critical to them. The Creator Fund will support loyal creators who spend their time creating great programming and building a community of Amp followers.”

To be eligible to receive Creators Fund rewards, you must adhere to Amp’s guidelines and be located in the United States. You must also be at least 18 years of age. If you are between the ages of 13-17, you need a parent or guardian to accept the app’s terms of use and set up a payment account.

Amazon introduced the Amp app in March as a way to allow people to create live “radio shows” where they can act as a DJ, taking callers and playing songs from the licensed track catalog ranging from classic titles to contemporary music. The app marked Amazon’s somewhat belated entry into the live audio market.

Although Club house perhaps jump started the live audio market by establishing a new format for social interactions with live audio, the concept has since spread to numerous competitors including The spaces of Twitter and Greenroom on Spotify. However, Amazon’s amp excels in providing out-of-the-gate access to an extensive music catalog. Creators can use Amp to DJ, stream and chat about their favorite songs and artists. Or they can use the app to talk about something else, like sports or pop culture, while curating a music selection for their listeners and taking live callers.
