A few days ago, the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, said that the company would try very stupid things in the next days. And that seems to be the company’s product strategy — even if it’s wreaking havoc all over the place.

It’s a tough time for anyone keeping up with the changes in the social network, because everything can turn upside down at any time without warning. Blink a few times? Something has changed. Did you go make coffee? Many things have changed. Went to sleep? Welcome to a new world.

Earlier this week, Twitter launched its grayed out official mark for notable accounts such as companies and politicians. This was supposed to be a second layer of identification after Musk announced that anyone paying $8 a month would get the original blue checkmark. But within hours of the launch, he “killed” it.

On the other hand, the company’s product manager Esther Crawford clarified that the gray “Official” labels are “still rolling out” as part of the new Twitter Blue product. So far we don’t know of any serious consequences, but it can cause a lot of damage. If only Twitter had strong leaders securitylegal, communications and trust and safety teams.

Twitter has changed its policy on parody accounts, saying it needs to clarify this their names and biographies to avoid imitation. It should be noted that the language used in these policy changes is rough and vague.

At the time of writing, Twitter appears to have turned off Twitter Blue subscriptions around the world. As application researcher Jane Manchun Wong noted, the company is not allowing users to subscribe to this new plan. This may be the result of premature deployment in countries like India, and it may also have been someone else who “killed him”. Maybe by the time you read this it might be available again, who knows?

A lot happens at a breakneck speed on Twitter. New policy pages appear without the corresponding functions being available in the application. The company is probably introducing production changes directly from the development environment. Deadlines are breakage. There is tons of bugs on the platform. Spam there is increased. Musk has cancel remote work and said the company may go bankrupt. Treasures from executives have left. But that’s okay, and Twitter is the most interesting place on earth.
