Meta announced today that it will now allow users to post their NFTs to both Instagram and Facebook. Users can link their wallets such as Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet to publish digital collectibles minted in Ethereum, Polygon and Flow.
“While we continue to release digital collectibles on Facebook and Instagram, we’ve started giving people the ability to post digital collectibles they own on both Facebook and Instagram. This will allow people to link their digital wallets once to each app to share their digital collectibles across both,” the company said in his blog post.
The company has been experimenting with NFT on both of its platforms since May. So here’s a quick reminder of what Meta has done in the digital collectibles space so far:
Today’s test is simply an extension of those steps. However, the ability to cross-post NFT to both Instagram and Facebook is currently only available to US-based users.
In addition to expanding support for displaying various digital collectibles, app sleuths noted that the company is also working on custom animations for NFT posts and digital collector’s collections. Earlier in the year, Zuckerberg mentioned that Meta would be working on displaying NFTs via Instagram Stories and making them compatible with Spark AR.
While other platforms like Twitter and Reddit have focused on NFT-based avatars, Meta is trying to reach a wider audience by introducing features that will allow people to display their digital collectibles through posts. The company’s plan is to support all major blockchains and wallets so that more crypto-natives can display digital art on a mainstream platform. On the other hand, crypto-curious people can view NFT posts just like other posts in their feeds so they can learn more about them.
Artists posted their NFT creations on Instagram long before the platform started supporting them. So the company is trying to profit from drawing up a long-term roadmap to support creators. In May, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said the company was survey of digital collector sales so creators can have another way to make money. The company has also expressed a desire for construction digital art marketplace which can be used to purchase items in the metaverse.
