St. Frances Academy hosts Dutch Fork in a game that could shake up the Super 25 standings

St. Francis Academy (Md.) heads into this week undefeated in the 2022 high school football season. The Panthers opened the year with a 20-13 win over East St. Louis (Ill.) followed by a 47-7 win over DeSoto (Texas). Then last week they beat Venice (FL) 34-17. Overall, they have outscored their opponents 103-37 and won 11 straight under coach Messi Hailemariam.

This weekend, however, they will receive their toughest test yet.

On Friday, St. Francis visits Dutch Fork (S.C.), which is 5-0 this year. After surviving some close early games against Hough (SC) and Spartanburg (SC), the Silver Foxes began to pull away from their competition. Last week was their most dominant performance yet, shutting out North Augusta (SC) 49-7.

Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts admits his team is the underdog in this one, of Lou Bezjac in The State.

“We’re the underdogs, but I think we’ll find a way to pull it off. This is what I believe and how I do it. I believe this with my heart and soul. We will approach it this way. This is our field, our home ground and I think we will play well.”

Notts has good reason to feel confident. His team is 87-2-1 since the 2016 season and has won five state championships.

A win for No. 3 ranked St. Francis could be enough to catapult the Silver Foxes our Super 25 rankings– which wouldn’t be a first for the South Carolina powerhouse.
