A La Verne, Calif., high school football coach has been placed on leave after being charged with battery following Friday night’s game between Damien High (Calif.) and Bishop Amat (Calif.).

According to CBS Los Angeles, Bishop Amat running back Aidan Ramos says one of the coaches at Damien High grabbed his shoulders and “tore his helmet off.” The incident occurred after the refusal of a handshake between the two head coaches of the team.

SGVN’s Fred Robledo shared a statement from the La Verne Police Department saying they are investigating a charge of battery.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles also released a statement saying it would conduct its own investigation.
