Two Maryland high schools are ending their football seasons after a huge fight

A brawl broke out on the field Friday night at a game between two high school football teams in Montgomery County, Maryland. Players from both Northwest (Med.) and Gaithersburg (Med.) were involved in the altercation.

According to Chioma-Emilia Ahaghotu on WUSA9, an unidentified person was arrested at the scene for possession of a knife. The two schools agreed to temporarily suspend their football seasons to assist in the investigation.

“MCPS said in a press release that the district ‘strongly condemns the abhorrent and unacceptable behavior that occurred at last night’s football game.’ … MCPS and both schools – Northwest and Gaithersburg – have agreed that football operations at both schools will be temporarily suspended to assist with the ongoing investigation.”

A partial video of the fight was captured from the stands:

The fight apparently spilled off the field and into the parking lot, on WTOP.

“According to the Gaithersburg Police Department, while officers were trying to deal with the situation on the ground, other ‘physical altercations began to erupt’ throughout the property, including the parking lot.”

Northwest led 14-0 with one minute and 15 seconds left in the third quarter when it came down to battle. The game was suspended and Northwest picked up the win.
