Gregg Popovich gave some funny advice to a high school reporter

A high school reporter covering his first NBA game got some advice from one of the greatest head coaches to ever do it.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has spoken out a piece of advice that many other reporters have had to deal with the hard way:

“Stay away from interviewing Popovich.”

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is known to be unafraid to speak his mind, but his responses are rarely mean. There is lists and videos on YouTube and even gifs showing his hilarity in and around the game.

And that answer, of course, was just a joke. Popovich said so himself after his initial false tip. NBA.com writer Mark Medina tweeted that after Popovich warned the young reporter to stay away, he added:

“I’m funny though! You should have fun. People who take things personally, that’s their problem; it’s not mine.”

He also offered some real advice, tweeted by San Antonio Express-News reporter Mike Finger:

Let’s hope the reporter was prepared for anything and didn’t take herself too seriously. Either way, Popovich’s response probably caught her off guard.

The Spurs fell to the Los Angeles Clippers 119-97 on Friday and are now 6-11 on the season in what is being seen as a post-dynasty Spurs rebuilding year. Their next game is also in LA, a Saturday night game against the 4-10 Lakers.
