Carthage High School senior Jada Walton rounded third base and headed for home. The throw came in time, and to avoid the tag, she had to jump out of the way, not just on the glove, but down the plate line.
Face to face with the hunter, she was caught. She was about to go out. She had no chance to get around the catcher and get to the plate. So she took a desperate move, which was probably the first thing that came to her mind.
She pointed to first base as if to say “Look over there!”
Somehow it worked out. Whatever crazy thing she said to the hunter happens over there interrupted the hunter and made her look away. At that second, Walton dove to the plate and miraculously came in.
She pulled the oldest trick in the book. This is the escape scene where the main character throws a rock and all the villains go to investigate this noise. This is the parent who falsely backs away from the bedroom door before peeking in again to see if the child is indeed asleep. It’s basically every move of Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner and Coyote, etc. And it worked like a charm.
