Recruiting truly never stops, and five-star Francis Mauigoa is finding new ways to get the word out about the US.
Francis Mauigoa put his effort into the trenches, apparently handing off University of Miami four-star EDGE rusher Damon Wilson midway through IMG Academy’s (Bradenton, Fla.) preseason game against Venice (Fla.).
It was a match between a pair of the best players on either side of the line, but this contest did not extend beyond the lines of the net.
“He definitely got me in the middle of the game and I have to admit that’s never happened to me before,” Wilson told 247 Sports (Subscribers).
Mauigoa is ranked as the No. 11 player and No. 2 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite — the No. 1 OT in the 247Sports ratings — and his innovation is on display on the recruiting front as well. While he anchors the U’s offensive line, he is trying to get Wilson, the No. 39 prospect and five-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings, to join him on the other side of the ball.
Damon has 29 offers from schools across the country. In July, he announced that his top five schools were Alabama, Ohio, Georgia, Miami and Texas, on UGAWire.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound power forward will mull over his decisions as his senior season ramps up, and Mauigoa will continue to try to represent his school to opponents who are actively trying to beat him at the line.
