The head varsity baseball coach of New Trier (Ill.) Trevians broke a long-standing record for most wins in Illinois State history.
Mike Napoleon began his career at New Trier in 1997 and has only had one losing season since. This leads to many victories. A few weeks ago, he earned his 951st career win with friends, family and former players gathered to watch, on account from the Chicago Sun-Times.
“On April 27, with Napoleon’s family, former players and friends, New Trier blanked Glenbrook North 5-0 for Napoleon’s 951st win in his 39th season as head coach. By Wednesday, he was at 954 and counting.”
The previous state record holder was Dave Swisgood, who began his run back in 1956.
Although he has been coaching for nearly 40 years now, Napoleon told the Sun-Times he still enjoys what he does and has no plans to retire.
The Trevians routed Maine West (Ill.) 14-1 on Saturday, bringing their record this season to 22-4.
